Flora and fauna

FLORA

The northeast Argentina has tropical vegetation, with plants such as palm and guaiacum. In the Chaco the vegetation is bushy. In the Pampas, grasses prevail and, as in most of Patagonia, only drought-resistant species such as eucalyptus, acacia and sycamore are present.

FAUNA

In the north-eastern area of the country the fauna is particularly varied and abundant. Infact, there are several species of monkeys, the jaguar, the puma, the anteater and the tapir. In the Pampas live the armadillo, the fox, the marten, the lynx, the hare, the deer and the American ostrich. In the cold Andean regions the llama, vicuna, guanaco, alpaca and condor are characteristic. Along the coasts of the southern end of Argentina and in Tierra del Fuego there are some species of penguins, among which the royal penguin.
